A place in the sun

(in answer to Daleen Enslin-Strydom)

There are moments in every day
when the small things
that are happening brings
a sense of belonging
makes my thoughts, my longings stray,
to you and like a child
in faith, in trust
you are my hope, the one
when all other things are gone.

Sometimes it’s difficult to find tranquillity
to be the one that you expect me to be
but our love has got wings that overreach
each new tomorrow
and it goes far beyond sorrow and pain
we are no longer just each to each
and something does remain
something that is really great and sublime
as if from the first moment in time
we were created to be together
as if hard wired into our souls
we are to be never alone.

From far beyond the sun, stars,
planets and galaxies beyond the know universe
our time and place in the sun was set;
before we had even met
you were destined to be my wife
and I have know that a time will come
as if our being together was written in stone.

The African Lammergeyer

Very few birds are so impressive
as the lammergeyer
with its three meter stretched out wings
when it glides circling
high above the mountains.

Legends tell that this bird
snatches people and fly away with them
but the weak claws and feet
contradicts these tales

and in spite of its size
the lammergeyer is a timid and shy bird
that lives from carrion
and it eats the remains of animals
like a vulture

and it carries the large bones
to tremendous heights
to drop upon rocks
to break them open
before it circles down
to peck up the bits of marrow.

Wild horses

With their manes blowing in the wind
they run with open mouths that foam
and at full speed they turn away
With their manes blowing in the wind
they gallop with thunder coming from their hoofs
as horses that run free under a blue sky.
With their manes blowing in the wind
they run with open mouths that foam
before somewhere they stop to graze
with their manes blowing in the wind
on the beach next to the narrow beach
and they look tame but are wild
With their manes blowing in the wind
they run with open mouths that foam.

TENDER RAGE

After the weep there was blankness,
then he started playing with fire
for existence, of a rain
which refused to shower.
It was a fierce night of a hidden drought.

A lethal dose of amnesia
dissipates the calmness of a hangman:
waiting to cut the cord of resistence:
moon will spy on the cold-blooded
murder of a white ego.

This was the aftermath of the soaring
food prices of soul songs. People were mowing
the tall grasses of dialects, sensing
the wind, onslaught of gathering storm.
Morning sky was pale and withdrawn, full of sorrow.

The dignity calls for the last prayer
for a lesser portrait!

Poem: Unwavering

O my Lord, my eyes are fixed on you;
nothing else matters or blocks my view.
I’ve purposed to set my heart on Thee,
knowing that You have a vision for me.
Remove these silly, earthly distractions
that interfere with our intimate connection.
I’ve been released from shadows of anonymity;
my future is certain, bound solely by Thee.
My desire has been renewed with holy fire;
teach me even more, before my life transpires.
You continue to sustain me with Thy glorious light,
since I’m walking by faith and not by sight.
Salvation resonates with my heart’s inner chord
and I’ve wholly accepted Thy divine reward.
Thank You Lord, for this Wilderness experience,
as I now celebrate with an inner, bonfire dance.
Bring to my awareness an increased sensitivity,
regarding events of Your Kingdom’s activity.
Bless me with greater wisdom and understanding,
for my faith forever remains… unwavering.

Poem: His Amazing Grace Continues

I am surely blessed, knowing…
that God’s grace continues to flow;
for I’m sustained by His presence,
wherever I am or divinely go.

I refuse to be consumed by uncertainties;
for by His grace, all fears are relieved!
My faith will be evident within my life,
which started… when I first believed.

From promises of spiritual prosperity,
I thankfully in praise, raise my voice…
giving utterances of His sacred Word
in which this joyful soul now rejoices.

The Little Kitten

A tiny little kitten
whose feet were very sore,
wandered through the drifting snow
and right up to my door.
The weak meowing stirred me,
and drew me when she cried.
I crossed my room with aging feet,
inviting her inside.

She shivered and was hungry,
was frightened, very weak.
Confused, she wasn't trusting,
her future somewhat bleak.
Now even though I loved her,
I saw a troubled sign.
I thought about it for a bit -
compared her life to mine...

As she warmed up to me a bit,
I let her eat and rest -
but ran, she did, if I came close -
afraid of me, I guessed.
Now I was like that kitten,
and it became quite clear -
that I was frightened, ran away,
when Jesus got too near.

Then as the days kept rolling by,
she finally did prefer -
to be around and close to me.
She knew that I loved her.
Before I learned that God so loved,
my life was very grim.
And though He loved me very much,
I had no faith in Him.

Knowing that I love her so
and take good care of her -
knowing that I listen when
I hear her prayerful purr -
defines a word called "faithfulness",
defines a true belief -
not wandering out aimlessly
in blowing snow and grief.

So now you'll find her in my lap,
a tiny ball of fuzz -
but she had taught me faithfulness.
I know it's true because -
I once roamed like this kitten,
where snow and drifting harms,
but now I lie in pastures green -
with Jesus, in His arms.

When the night sneaks near

When the night sneaks near
and suddenly comes almost unexpectedly
as if it’s a visitor

then you come and knock on my heart,
then you become the nearest star
when you steal the light from the moon

and it’s in your arms that I lay,
where I find my rest and peace
until the sunlight surprises us.

I need you

I need you,
I need you to think of me,
and in the darkness
I want to see your big shining eyes,

I want to feel your heart beating in your chest,
I want to quench my thirst of you,
I want to hear the tinkle of your laughter,
I want to feel you when we lay spooned together

and I do need you
to love me without any restraint.
