Mascara Literary Review One of my poems first appeared in Mascara Literary Review, a literary journal out of Australia. A bi-annual literary journal founded, Mascara is particularly interested in the work of contemporary Asian, Australian and Indigenous writers. The word ‘mascara’ entered the English language in 1890. It derives from Spanish, Arabic and French origins, its meaning evolving from the word mask, masquerade, to darken, to blacken. The Arabic word ‘maskhara’ means buffoon. The journal is edited by Michelle Cahill , Suneeta Peres da Costa , Martin Edmond , Maria Freij, Lucy Van , and Kim Cheng Boey. Other contributing authors include: Fatima Bhutto, Andrew Jackson, Carol Chan, Rae Desmond Jones, Johanna Featherstone, Greg McLaren, Adam Aitken, Franz Wright, Benjamin Dodds, Cath Vidler, Eileen Chong, Anindita Sengupta, Matt Hetherington, Vikram Teva Raj, James Stuart, Liam Ferney, Solrun Hoaas, Alex Skovron, Chris Brown, Jenny Lewis, Jan Dean, Indran Amirthanayagam, Patrick Rosal, Ankur Betageri, Maya Khosla, Sushma Joshi, Shannon Burns, Angelina Mirabito, and Patrick West, among others.
