My Friend
I wonder who You are, Dear Friend
How many layers do I have to peel off
Until I can see Your face?
You can be childlike, with sparkling eyes,
Delighted with every little ray of sun
On early spring grass, not quite green yet
But tears come easily
With memories of past situations
Your proud soul tries to hide them
And claims to be shallow instead
You can be excited by the slightest promise of spring in the air
And at the same time cautious, a delicate mimosa
Shutting down quickly
Threatened by a gossamer touch of a gentle thought
You claim to be happy always, seeking lust only
Your smile an impenetrable fortress
But you have known true love
You are gentle and caring
And what else I wonder?
How many layers do I have to peel off
Until I can see your face, my Friend?
You never cease to amaze me
Sparkling crystal, blinding me with countless facets
You are this and that and something else
Then I find to my surprise
You can truly understand me
Such profound insight
From a person who seeks entertainment and fun only!
I might never see Your face, my Friend
And that is alright
For it is not for me to know
All I need to know in my heart is
That You make my life better
You lighten my days always
You make me smile and warm me with Your hugs
I might never see your face, my Friend
But I am honored to know You
And I will be there for You if You ever need me.
