Broken-hearted
Broken-hearted
The
sky was overcast porpenting doom
He
sat quietly alone in the gloomy room
He
sat at the window staring out into the rain
From
his vantage point he saw the clock and
Saw
that it was four in the morning and dark
She
had been gone for six hours after that
Dreadful
argument over – well over what
He
didn't want to think again – to embark
On
another history of her dalliance – hand
In
hand with another man caused such pain
But
it was true – she was seeing another and
It
had been going on under his nose for some
Time
now – he felt such a fool and so hurt
They
had argued and she had stormed out
Into
the rain leaving everything behind her
He
now waited for her return – to sort it out
Unseen
to him the back door opened and she
Entered
– bedraggled and soaking wet – he
Moved
to embrace her but she moved away
She
picked up her keys and he began to sway
Knowing
in his heart that it was now too late
Moving
for the door he ran – begged her to wait
But
she shook him off – angry - - eyes wide
The
sound of a horn – a car waited outside –
She
said nothing – gave him her ring and departed
Leaving
him cold and weak-kneed – broken-hearted
