Autumn Rain
in draped streets of
tangerine october
their cobblestones covered
in cinnamon confetti
of dried, icteric leaves,
fringed in denuded skeletons
of barren apostles of fall,
the autumn rain of whimsy falls
its pattering rhapsody
echoing in poignant, fluid syllables
dissolving nutmeg sighs
of earth in pitchers of puddles,
creating mellifluous jaltarangs on
the bosom of gravel trails
wreathed in dishwater ditches.
this rain sings of
uncovered nests nestled on
nude boughs of autumn stripped trees
their apparel of foliage lost,
it sings of burnished wisps
soaring to moods of vagrant breeze,
of the mandarin sun no
longer frowning disapproval over
the fields of cheery mustard blossoms
smiling like sprinkled photons
in refulgent bloom emerging from
the womb of enduring soil.
